Amperometric
Chlorine Sensing
Halogen's patented sensor technology measures chlorine electrochemically — directly in the pipe, with no reagents, no membranes, and no waste stream. Accurate, continuous, and virtually maintenance-free.

How Amperometric Sensing Works
A simple, elegant electrochemical process that delivers precision without complexity.
Chlorine Contact
Water flows past bare electrodes
Electrochemical Reaction
Chlorine produces measurable current
Digital Signal
Current converted to precise concentration reading
Patented Technologies
Five integrated innovations that deliver reliable, reagent-free water quality measurement.
Amperometric Measurement
Halogen sensors use bare-electrode amperometry — an electrochemical technique that measures chlorine by detecting the current produced when dissolved chlorine reacts at the electrode surface. Unlike colorimetric (DPD) methods, there are no reagents to consume, replace, or dispose of. The signal is proportional to the chlorine concentration and is measured continuously in real time.
HiRes™ Impeller System
A patented magnetically coupled impeller draws water across the sensor electrodes at a controlled rate, making the measurement independent of pipeline flow velocity. This eliminates the need for flow control valves, pressure regulators, or minimum flow requirements. The impeller motor is rated for 20,000+ hours of operation.
SensiCLENE™ Self-Cleaning
Polymer beads circulate within the sensor shroud, continuously scrubbing the electrode surfaces to prevent fouling from biofilm, scale, and organic buildup. This patented system maintains sensor accuracy for 6–12 months without manual cleaning — even in challenging water conditions.
DryGLAS™ pH Sensor
A unique pH glass formulation that recovers quickly after drying out. Unlike conventional pH probes that are permanently damaged when the electrolyte dries, DryGLAS stabilizes within minutes after extended dry periods — critical for applications where pipes are regularly emptied.
Multi-Parameter Integration
Every Halogen sensor measures multiple parameters from a single insertion point: free chlorine, pH, conductivity/salinity, temperature, and ORP. Variants add total chlorine and monochloramine. This eliminates the need for separate instruments and reduces installation complexity.
Patent Portfolio
Halogen Systems holds 12 patents across 5 jurisdictions, protecting core innovations in amperometric sensor design, self-cleaning electrode systems, flow-independent measurement, and extended-life electrode methods.

Why This Matters
Real operational savings and reliability improvements for your water system.
No Reagents
Zero liquid chemicals to order, store, mix, or dispose of. Eliminates a recurring cost and logistics burden.
No Membranes
Bare-electrode design eliminates membrane degradation, a common failure mode in competing amperometric sensors.
No Waste Stream
In-pipe installation means no sample water is diverted or wasted. Saves thousands of gallons annually.
Flow Independent
The internal impeller controls sample velocity, so readings are accurate regardless of pipeline flow rate.
6-Month Calibration
Typical calibration interval is 6 months for free chlorine — compared to weekly or monthly for DPD systems.
NSF-61 Certified
All wetted materials are NSF/ANSI 61 certified for drinking water contact. Safe for direct pipe insertion.
